The Jungle Book 1967

Over the five decades since The Jungle Book 1967 came to the silver screen, there has been a complete technological revolution. While the 1967 film was only released on the one available platform – the cinema – the 2016 film is – one year on – already on multiple platforms for audiences to view globally, including online streaming.

Firstly Digitally convergent media platforms have had a large impact on movie production since 1967. For example while until recently film companies had to make individual copies of every film, which got passed around the cinemas for weeks at a time. Now synergies in production produce cost savings for Disney, for example copies of the 2016 Jungle Book can be shown across a number of convergent platforms e.g. smart phones, Netflix, TV channels and cinema. This is constantly developing, however: Disney announced it will end its streaming and distribution partnership with Netflix in the hopes of launching its own movie, TV and live sports streaming service in 2018. This means that Netflix subscribers will have to move over to Disney in order to watch films like ‘The Jungle Book’, giving Disney even more power over the movie market than it has already.

Convergence between social media platforms has enabled Disney’s audience to have an active voice in its on-going production through feedback and commentary through YouTube, Facebook and online fan communities. "The media landscape is increasingly defined by direct relationships between content creators and consumers," – Robert Iger, CEO of Disney.
The internet’s availability over a multitude of different platforms has acted as an enabler to movie companies in terms of how they distribute films, for example vastly cutting down on distribution costs and increasing audience.
In some cases the impact of digitally convergent media platforms has also increased the risk of movie production for movie companies, for example through leaked content that is playable across a number of convergent platforms and online piracy – it is easy for audiences to illegally download Disney movies and TV shows, Through websites such as Netflix , 123 movies were you can even get subscritions t watch all the avalible films you wish to see at any time.

An additional monetisation feature exists to gain additional revenue and also capture further audience information to refine future products, such as Disney Life and Disney Universe.  Also investigating partnerships with other companies online such as Lego.

Definition of Symbiotic

Definition of Symbiotic

living in symbiosis, or having an interdependent relationship:
Many people feel the relationship between humans and dogs is symbiotic.

disney uses the symbiotic relationship between different media platforms to promote its films, for example youtube showing the films trailer to get the viewers interested. This means that different social media websites work together to promote different film companies which would help to raise the usage of there website and increase there views.

The Jungle Book 2016 Marketing Tactics

This was the first marketing stunt for “The Jungle Book,” which cost roughly $175 million to make. By going to happy Disneyphiles first, Disney ensured that the movie’s initial blast on social media would be a positive one.

  • Major push to have bloggers write on the theme that Favreau had used sophisticated, hi-tech filmmaking techniques to create the animal characters  and make them compelling — this to overcome any resistance to the “talking animals” concept.
  • Recognizing that there was a need to keep the film from looking too childish in order to appeal to the finicky high school crowd— older siblings tend to influence younger brothers and sisters — Disney consciously filled the first trailer with scary moments (pouncing panther, snarling tiger, stampeding buffalo) while hiding the musical numbers and keeping Baloo’s goofier moments to a minimum.
  • To elevate “The Jungle Book” in the minds of grown-ups, Disney in March circulated dramatic photographs that paired voice actors with their onscreen characters — Idris Elba with the tiger Shere Khan, Ben Kingsley with the panther Bagheera, Lupita Nyong’o with the wolf Raksha.
  • Recognizing that the Disney Magic Castle logo is not an automatic plus for the male demo, Disney aggressively and repeatedly pitched “The Jungle Book” to male audiences on ESPN and elsewhere  as coming not from the studio that made “Cinderella” but “from the studio that brought you ‘Pirates of the Caribbean.’An extended 3-D trailer for “The Jungle Book” was attached to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which had an audience that was 58 percent male. And Disney rolled out an action-oriented trailer during the Super Bowl.
  • Aiming at the Hispanic market, Disney teamed with Univision for a five-week stunt that brought “Jungle Book” characters and clips to telenovelas, talk shows and sports coverage. Disney even built a tool to allow Univision personalities to appear in scenes.
  • To emphasize the “immersive world” (think Avatar) Disney introduced a mazelike Law of the Jungle website in partnership with the female-leaning Tumblr; ran special promos at IMAX theaters focusing on the snake Kaa; and created a touring virtual-reality experience and 360-degree Facebook video emphasizing the “Avatar”-like world of its jungle.
  • Various corners of the Disney empire pitched in to promote “The Jungle Book.” A New Year’s Day stunt on the Disney Channel, for instance, was used to portray the film as one of the year’s first blockbuster offerings for families and children.
  • But the synergistic heavy lifting was done by Disney theme parks. During the jam-packed spring break weeks, park theaters in Florida and California offered sneak-peek footage of the movie, with Mr. Favreau providing introductions. The many (many) theme park stores that sell Disney merchandise had “Jungle Book” sections. And Disney built photogenic “Jungle Book” sand sculptures at its Animal Kingdom and Epcot parks in Florida.

Goodbye Christopher Robin

Over the weekend I went and saw Goodbye Christoper Robin with my family, before going in to the cinema i felt this would be a story about a little boy and his bear but very quickly this was changed as the first scene unraveled. This story tells the tale of the real Christopher Robin and the writing of his story and how he dealt with his unloving mother and the press who were following him his whole live and his time at boarding school before he left for the army.
Whilst growing up I believed that Christopher Robin was a fictional character who was made up by A.A Milne the writer of Winnie the pooh.

The films rating on IMDb is:    7.2/10

Margot Robbie...
Domhnall Gleeson...

Young Sheldon

Recently i have been enjoying a new show called Young Sheldon which i have been loving. After finishing Big Bang Theory season 10 i decided to test out a new show that was still based on my favorite character Sheldon cooper.

Young Sheldon is about a small genius boy who struggles to fit in with his family and new senior school which he joined at the age of 9. The story follows his child hood to fill in the details of the much loved older version called Sheldon cooper, the physician genius who struggles with physical contact and how to deal with and pin point different emotions. After only watching one episode i am all ready in love with this young boy played by Iain Armitage who presents his character amazingly.

On IMDb this is rated:
             6.3/10

Victoria and Abdul

Yesterday I went a saw Victoria and Abdul, this film is about Queen Victoria and here foot man called Abdul and how Victoria protected him against the prejudice from other workers and her son Bertie, who took over the crown after her death.

Here is some information from wiki on Queen Victoria:

Victoria (Alexandrina Victoria; 24 May 1819 – 22 January 1901) was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 20 June 1837 until her death. From 1 May 1876, she adopted the additional title of Empress of India.

Victoria was the daughter of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn, the fourth son of George III of the United Kingdom. Both the Duke of Kent and King George III died in 1820, and Victoria was raised under close supervision by her German-born mother, Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. She inherited the throne at the age of 18, after her father's three elder brothers had all died, leaving no surviving legitimate children. The United Kingdom was already an established constitutional monarchy, in which the sovereign held relatively little direct political power. Privately, Victoria attempted to influence government policy and ministerial appointments; publicly, she became a national icon who was identified with strict standards of personal morality.

Victoria married her first cousin, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, in 1840. Their nine children married into royal and noble families across the continent, tying them together and earning her the sobriquet "the grandmother of Europe". After Albert's death in 1861, Victoria plunged into deep mourning and avoided public appearances. As a result of her seclusion, republicanism temporarily gained strength, but in the latter half of her reign her popularity recovered. Her Golden and Diamond Jubilees were times of public celebration.

Here are the two main characters and who they were played:
Judi Dench...
Ali Fazal...

And the rating IMDb gave it was:

    6.8/10

Harry Potter WB tours video !!

Oh my god Harry Potter WB tours was amazing !!! Heres my video for the trip, i know its a little long but its 100% worth it. I am hopefully going again soon and i can't wait, so worth the wait !

Three key terms connecting to disney

Three key terms:
Global media conglomerate – Disney is the second biggest media conglomerate in the world according to http://uk.businessinsider.com/the-30-biggest-media-owners-in-the-world-2016-5/#3-comcast--1972-billion-in-media-revenue-28

Vertical integration - Vertical integration is when Disney has to produce, market, distribute, and create merchandise for their product. An example of this can be seen thanks to the High School Musical series. Disney produced it in their studios, marketed it on Disney Channel and ABC News by interviewing the cast. Their merchandise included, apparel, purses, make-up, and later, a theatrical version of High School Musical. Synergy can include the Lion King film series. It had have three sequels, a hit Broadway play, the soundtrack for the play and the first film was available but they both also had shirts, cups, and other souvenirs. http://disneycompanyprofile.weebly.com/studio-entertainment.html

Horizontal integration - A great example of a horizontal integration is Disney's acquisition of Pixar Studios. Disney, facing market saturation with its current operations, was looking for ways to expand and increase profits. Disney had started out as an animation studio that targeted families and children. Pixar Studios also operated in the same space as Disney, but it had more cutting-edge technology when it came to digitally animated movies. To grow its market share, strengthen its product line, reduce its competition and access new markets, Disney acquired Pixar Studios.

The Emmys 2017

The Emmys 2017

The Emmy Awards are presented by The Television Academy, the only major organization devoted to the television and broadband screen entertainment industry. The Emmy Awards, telecast prior to the fall television premiere season, is the flagship event for which the Television Academy is best known.

The award is named after the image-orthicon camera tube, which was instrumental in the development of television. "Immy" was feminized as "Emmy" to complement the design chosen for the statuette, which depicted a winged, idealized woman holding an atom.

The 69th annual Primetime Emmy Awards took place in Los Angeles on Sunday. This year's awards were dominated by digital television. 'The Handmaid's Tale' and 'Big Little Lies' were the main winners. 'The Handmaid's Tale' won five awards including best drama series, best actress for Elisabeth Moss and best supporting actress for Ann Dowd. 'The Handmaid's Tale's' win for best drama series means Hulu has become the first streaming service to win that award, beating the likes of big hitters Netflix and Amazon.
Big Little Lies took five prizes in the limited series categories, including wins for Nicole Kidman and Laura Dern.

Preliminary Media

This is my prelimary media project

I wanted my project to be hard hitting and difficault for the watcher to handle at the end, by the death of an unknown character the audience finds it intriguing and wonder who the person is and how they died in a slight car crash.
